Page 1 of 2 Thanks to Norfolk Commissioner of the Revenue Sharon McDonald, Virginians now know what it will take to get the Republican-controlled General Assembly to pass an overdue hike in the gas tax.It can't be big enough to do any good, there must not be recorded vote and, at the first sign of complaint, it must be capable of instant repeal. There's plenty of material for jokes from the comedy of errors behind the stealth gas tax increase brought to light last week by McDonald. Lawmakers cluelessly adopted it five years ago because they were careless. But it didn't do any harm because the commissioners were asleep at the wheel and overlooked it. At least until McDonald blew the whistle. |
