Sharon M. McDonald confirmed today that she will file for re-election as Norfolk’s Commissioner of the Revenue. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2009.
McDonald began her service as Norfolk’s Commissioner of Revenue on January 1, 1998, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and enhancing customer service. Since then, some of her accomplishments as Commissioner of the Revenue’s office have been to:
“It is a great honor to serve the citizens of Norfolk as their Commissioner of Revenue, and I am proud of all that has been accomplished so far,” said McDonald. “But we have much more to do. During my next term, I will focus on ways to continually improve the operational efficiency of my office and to ensure that all Norfolk taxpayers are paying their fair share of taxes but not one penny more.
“I also intend to work closely with the Norfolk City Council to improve the Real Estate Tax Relief Program for our senior citizens, many of whom are burdened with significantly increased taxes due to the rising property values. Above all, I plan to focus on areas where my office can partner with other city offices in serving the citizens of Norfolk.”
McDonald’s re-election bid has the support of many elected officials including U.S. Sen. Mark Warner; Virginia Senator Ralph Northam; State Delegates Paula Miller, Kenny Alexander, Algie Howell, Johnny Joannou, and Lynwood Lewis; Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim, Council Members Daun Hester, Paul Riddick, and Randy Wright; Norfolk Treasurer Tom Moss, Norfolk Sheriff Bob McCabe, Norfolk Clerk of Court George Schaefer, and Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Greg Underwood.
